Funny Cake Pie

Old Fashioned Funny Cake Pie

The funny cake pie is part of our German and Pennsylvania Dutch background.

The funny cake is a two layer pie with a chocolate cocoa goo on the bottom and vanilla breakfast cake on top. They call it funny cake because when you put it in the pan, the vanilla part is in the bottom and the chocolate on top. Somehow, in baking, it ends up reversed.

Funny Cake Pie - 8 Inch
$14.95

We have both our shoofly and funny cake recipe available online at our Maple Springs Country Farm Cookbook.. Shoo-fly is a little easier to make than funny cake. But, of course you have to practise the crust a few times to get it to taste like mom's. Most folks serve the funny cake for breakfast, but I could eat them any time of the day!
